Written by the late rapper, poet, and activist Tupac Shukar, The Rose That Grew From Concrete is a simple yet evocative depiction of beauty’s ability to survive despite the circumstances that would ordinarily stifle it.
The poem symbolizes our ability to push through the barriers life throws at us—even while not receiving the nourishment, care, or attention we deserve.
The beauty of the rose, despite its flaws and thorns, represents you, and the concrete it grew from represents your traumas, childhood adversities, stressors, or otherwise challenging times of your life.
Full poem can be read here on the homepage.
